-------------------- NEWS -------------------- Ottawa, June 27, 2005 – The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) is pleased to announce they have engaged Kasar Canada Ltd. of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to deliver food safety consulting and compliance audit services on its behalf. Over the past several years, Kasar has been working with CTA on the development of a trucking specific food safety program based on Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles. Developed for the US space program, HACCP follows an internationally recognized methodology allowing for the identification, control and documentation of factors which could potentially compromise food safety. HACCP is currently mandatory for seafood products, and is becoming increasingly in demand from processors, distributors and retailers who rely on trucks to move food commodities. “CTA is extremely pleased to enter into an arrangement with Kasar Canada to deliver CTA’s Trucking Food Safety Program” said Ron Lennox, CTA’s Vice President of Trade and Security. “HACCP is the wave of the future. We wanted to ensure that the trucking industry was ready to meet the increasing demands of our clients. We believe the program developed by the food safety experts at Kasar, which has been pilot tested by carriers under the guidance of federal officials, will meet or exceed any food shippers’ expectations.” “We feel very honored to be representing the CTA on this important issue of food safety in transportation” commented Kasar founder and President Brad MacCallum. “Our existing national presence in distribution warehousing will help us generate an awareness of the new program in the trucking industry. We are committed to maintaining the high standards the CTA is known for.” CTA and Kasar acknowledge the important role played by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in the development of the Trucking Food Safety Program. “Without the federal government’s support, this program never would have come into being” said Lennox. “It’s a good example of the public and private sector working together to accomplish goals that are in all Canadians’ interests.” CTA is a federation of Canada’s provincial trucking associations.
