Truckworld A Big Success
Brad MacCallum, President and Founder of Kasar Canada Ltd., along with Ron Lennox from the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), and Tim Zehr from Erb Transport presented a seminar on the Trucking Food Safety Program at TruckWorld in Toronto in April. Kasar, under contract to the CTA, developed this trucking-specific food safety program based on Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) methodology. The presentation explained why the program was developed, what it entails and the benefits carriers can obtain by putting the program in place. The seminar was well attended and it was obvious the topic was timely and relevant to all present.
While visiting with many of the companies participating in TruckWorld, some current trends we noticed included a significant increase in electronic monitoring and the ability to remotely control and adjust load parameters for refrigerated products in transit. We also saw advancements in tire technology, and engine controls to optimize fuel mileage and reduce emissions both from truck engines and refer units. One of the more innovative new products was a fuel price hedging program offered by a national insurance company.
